Song of the Sea began in Michigan as Great Lakes Dulcimers in 1974, when Eddie Damm taught himself to build hammered and mountain dulcimers. Eddie and Anne Damm moved to Bar Harbor in 1979 and continued to build over 900 dulcimers, bowed psalteries, Finnish kanteles, and kinder harps. and enable folks to add music to their lives, whether by playing an instrument, building a kit, or listening to a recording. We operated our storefront from 1983 - 2009 on the waterfront in downtown Bar Harbor and sponsored the Downeast Dulcimer and Folk Harp Festival here for 22 years. We also carried fine quality instruments from around the world including bagpipes, smallpipes, uilleann pipes, bodhrans, whistles, Celtic harps, concertinas, mandolins, bowed and plucked psalteries, instrument kits, and more as folks asked us to add new items. We sold our building spring 2009 and are continuing our business through our website. We take great care to adjust each instrument before it is shipped, to make sure it works properly. Thank you all for supporting us over the years and helping us spread the love and joy of music!! To play a low
whistle you will need to use bagpipe finger position--by covering the
holes mostly with the middle or second segment of your index and middle
fingers of both the upper, left hand and lower right hand. The
ring fingers of both hands use the end or first segment of the fingers,
to cover the tone holes. Then slightly angle your fingers toward the
bottom of the whistle. The reason for this fingering is so your
fingers can lie flat and stay comfortable as opposed to aching, if you
arch your fingers over to the tone holes, if you used the first segment
of your fingers. --all the low D whistles we carry have similar finger
spacing and hole size; some take varying amounts of air. This
fingering should seem less strained than if you tried to use your first
finger pads as you would on a smaller whistle. Bagpipers have been using
this technique for centuries. If it is a tunable whistle, and you have taken it apart to put into a case, then when you reassemble the whistle: put the 2 sections back together gently and aligned with each other. Otherwise,(depending on the brand of whistle), it may cause damage to the O-ring or Teflon tape gasket between the sections. |

This low D whistle has shorter finger spacing than many low D whistles,
which makes it comfortable to play. It is made of PVC, plain, unpainted-
some people like to decorate them using beads, magic markers, etc.
Jubilee
Instruments (Daniel Bingamon) has been making whistles since 1998.
This design has been well thought out to answer the call for an
entry level low whistle that really works.
